NDF - Financing for climate change and development projects

NDF at Global Green Growth Forum 2013

The Global Green Growth Forum 2013 was opened by Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt together with French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault, and Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn.

NDF participated in the high-level Global Green Growth Forum 2013 to share experiences and discuss pathways for inclusive green growth.

Global Green Growth Forum (3GF) 2013 took place Monday and Tuesday 21-22 October in Copenhagen. This year’s theme Improving Resource efficiency in the Value Chain brought together 250 top-level government representatives, business leaders, investors and international organisations to discuss how to effectively realise the potential for long-term global, inclusive green growth. A rapid, large-scale industrial transition is needed if global economic growth is to continue while simultaneously reducing greenhouse gas emissions, adapting societies to climate change and promoting a sustainable use of resources. This industrial transition has the potential to unlock new growth engines and spur global economic growth.

Nordic Development Fund’s Managing Director Pasi Hellman participated as panellist in two 3GF sessions. In the well-visited session on ‘Public-Private Partnerships to Reduce Urban Water Leakage’ Pasi Hellman briefly summarized approaches to urban planning from the NDF portfolio, while in the session on ‘Public and Private Finance for Renewable Energy: Possible Pathways for China’, he highlighted recent NDF experiences with using public financing to stimulate private investments in renewable energy through concessions, partial guarantee schemes, and insurance.
The Global Green Growth Forum (3GF) was initiated by the Danish Government in collaboration with the governments of China, Kenya, Mexico, Qatar and Rep. of Korea and a number of leading businesses and international organisations. 3GF provides an annual summit meeting of high level green growth leaders from governments, the corporate sector and international organisations willing to take leadership in this transition towards green growth. 3GF complements global processes and initiatives, focusing on enhancing public-private partnerships and bottom-up approaches.
