NDF’s role in climate finance was discussed at the meeting of parliamentarians.

The annual assembly of the Nordic parliamentarians, the Nordic Council’s 69th session, provided  a question hour for the parliamentarians with the Nordic development ministers.  On Wednesday, Karin Gaardsted, member of the Danish Folketinget and vice-chairman of the Nordic Council’s committee for a sustainable Nordic region, pointed to NDF’s many successful climate projects in developing countries, and inquired if the Nordic countries wish to maintain a well-functioning NDF into the future.  Minister Ine Marie Eriksen Søreide (NOR) referred to the various proposals related to the architecture of Nordic financial institutions and the need to clarify views on them, while Minister Kai Mykkänen (FIN) also indicated that the Nordic country governments should together be more clear and more decisive in terms of how to develop NDF.

On Tuesday, at the Nordic Council session in Helsinki, the Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven presented the programme for Sweden’s presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers in 2018. The programme also includes an intention to launch an inquiry into how the Nordic environmental and climate finance architecture can be optimised.
