The NDF project “Climate Smart Solutions for Small-scale Water and Energy Supply” has provided an innovative solution to Tanzania’s rural water supply challenge.

Through solar-powered water pumps, the project has brought tap water to communities in rural Tanzania, saving time, money and health problems resulting from unclean water consumption. The new technology, a remotely controlled smart water point management system, provides an affordable alternative to electricity and diesel powered technologies.

The project was financed by the Nordic Development Fund with co-financing from the Water Mission and the World Bank. The initiative builds on a pilot project in Kenya supported by the Nordic Climate Facility.

Learn more about how the project has changed the lives of 3,600 residents in the remote village of Gidewari in an article and video produced by the World Bank.
