MD Pasi Hellman represents NDF as a panelist of development partners at the GMS ministerial conference in Thailand.

"Spurring inclusive growth along the GMS economic corridors" was the theme of the 21st ministerial conference of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) countries, held in Chiang Rai, Thailand, from 30 Nov to 1 Dec 2016. NDF attended in the role of a long-term development partner to the GMS program of the Asian Development Bank.

The meeting took stock of the latest achievements of the GMS program, and outlined a new revised regional investment framework implementation plan until 2020.

Climate-proofing and resilience of investments were emphasised throughout the meeting. Strong focus in the collaboration of the GMS countries - Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and China - has been in the transport sector.

NDF Managing Director Pasi Hellman was an invited panellist in the Development Partners' session at the conference. In his remarks, he noted particularly NDF's contributions in the area of climate-resilient road sector development, and in the GMS programs on environment and agriculture. He also highlighted the importance of focusing on developing the capacity of the country authorities to be able to prepare and develop concrete and bankable investment projects. NDF has recently developed activities with the ADB that help GMS countries to both accelerate project development and produce concrete investment proposals.
