NDF Mission to AfDB Highlights Portfolio Growth and New Co-finance Opportunities

Pasi Hellman, Managing Director of NDF, introduced the new NDF Strategy during an NDF event on Mobilizing Climate Finance at the headquarters of the African Development Bank in Abidjan on Thursday.

The event highlighted NDF’s fast growing portfolio of climate co-finance operations with the Bank and took place at the end of a three day visit by NDF to Abidjan for meetings with management and operational counterparts throughout the Bank. Discussions over the three days covered both a review of the current portfolio and consultations on new opportunities for the two institutions to explore in the coming months. Bank teams presented several opportunities in areas including green finance, renewable energy and water.

The Bank’s Director for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, Alex Rugamba, moderated the event and highlighted the linkages between climate and the five priority areas of the Bank President’s new High Fives Agenda. These areas are to Light up and Power Africa, Feed Africa, Integrate Africa, Industrialize Africa, and Improve the quality of life for the people of Africa.

Heikki Tuunanen, the Bank’s Executive Director representing the Nordic countries and India, officially opened the event by endorsing the strong working relationship between the two institutions.

NDF will be back in Abidjan in early March to conduct a joint internal training with the Bank’s Transport Department on mainstreaming climate resilience in transport sector operations.
