On 18 November, Swedish Prince Carl Philip gave the Polhem Prize to Petra Wadström for her innovative water treatment technology.

The Polhem Prize is Sweden's oldest award for technological innovation and is awarded every other year by the Swedish Association of Graduate Engineers. This year, the award went to Petra Wadström for her invention of Solvatten.

The theme of the call will be “Inclusive green growth projects contributing to private sector development”. Preference will be given to projects in Sub-Saharan Africa.


NDF is together with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) improving the climate resilience of the farming systems in the Greater Mekong Sub-Region (GMS)

Together with ADB, NDF is financing the “Improving Nitrogen-use Efficiency for Climate Change Mitigation in the GMS”. The project aims to reduce the use of synthetic nitrogen fertilizers in the agricultural sector.


Together with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF), NDF will host a seminar on Innovative Climate Financing Mechanisms in Helsinki, on 4-5 November 2013.

The Seminar will be a platform to share experiences and lessons learned from initiatives undertaken by the NDF in partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank Group (IDB).


NDF participated in the high-level Global Green Growth Forum 2013 to share experiences and discuss pathways for inclusive green growth.

ICEIDA has signed a Partnership Agreement with the Government of Ethiopia for geothermal surface exploration and capacity building for geothermal development.

The implementing agencies in Ethiopia are the Geological Survey of Ethiopia (GSE) and the Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation (EEPCO). The cooperation with Ethiopia is initiated under the Iceland – World Bank compact on geothermal energy.

The third call for proposals focused on low-cost climate solutions with a strong positive impact on local business development.

The Nordic Climate Facility (NCF) has provided funding for fourteen climate projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The projects were selected from the Fund’s third call for proposals, which was launched in October 2011.
