NDF participates in opening of academic training course at National University of Engineering in Nicaragua.

The Minister of Transport and Nordic Development Fund inaugurated last week at the National Engineering University (UNI) a Postgraduate Course on Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change Applied to Road Infrastructure.

The NDF-funded "Save the Planet Initiative: An Education Pilot Project on Climate Change for Indigenous and Afro-Honduran communities" launched in Honduras.

Monday February 27 saw the launch of the "Save the Planet Initiative" in the city of Siguatepeque in central Honduras. “Save The Planet Initiative” is a climate change educational project to be based on Rise Up learning materials.

NDF hosted a seminar today about the International Infrastructure Support System (IISS), an online project management tool to support public agencies in project preparation.

Christophe Dossarps gave a presentation on the IISS, which was followed by a discussion with seminar participants from both NIB and NDF. Mr. Dossarps is CEO of the Sustainable Infrastructure Foundation, which is the executing agency of IISS.

Lao PDR, NDF and World Bank signed financing agreements for a climate-resilient road network project on 7 February.

The Lao PDR Ministry of Finance signed financing agreements with NDF and the World Bank for the Lao Road Sector Project 2 (LRSP2) on 7 February.

NDF will provide EUR 10 million in financing for climate- and sustainability planning to support Latin America and the Caribbean countries in achieving Paris climate targets.

Approved earlier this week by the NDF Board, NDF financing will anchor the NDC Pipeline Accelerator Trust Fund, a new facility established by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

Through a EUR 3.7 million grant, NDF will help improve woodlot management, charcoal production and seed quality in Northwest Rwanda. Jointly financed with the World Bank, the project will improve efficiency and sustainability along charcoal value chains in support of forest landscape restoration and rural livelihoods.

The woodlot management part of the project will encompass forests in Gishwati-Mukura, which in 2016 became Rwanda’s fourth national park.

The production of a new type of plant-based oil has started in Tipitapa, a small city just outside Managua, the capital of Nicaragua.
