“In Malawi even if you’re on the grid, you can’t count on lighting or running basic appliances, because there are so many blackouts!” laments Hellen Chabunya, Country Director, Total LandCare Malawi. “And most people don’t have access anyway.”

The Nordic Development Fund (NDF) is participating in the 3rd National Urban Forum in Kigali to discuss the financing of climate-resilient cities

Rwanda represents a good example of the rapidity and size of urban transformations that Africa faces. Rwandan cities’ growth rate is estimated to be one of the highest in sub-Saharan Africa.


Last year the Energy and Environment Partnership covering Southern and East Africa transitioned into a multi-donor trust fund. The EEP Africa Trust Fund is hosted by the Nordic Development Fund (NDF), with funding currently from Austria, Finland and NDF. This new chapter combines a proven model for delivering results with an evolution of the facility.
