Several hundred experts and decision-makers from the fields of transport and international development gathered last week in Manila, Philippines, for the biennial Transport Forum arranged by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The theme of this year’s forum was sustainable transport.

A fruitful NDF-backed project in Nepal has demonstrated how charcoal fertiliser made from waste biomass can greatly increase farmers’ yields in regions where conventional manufactured fertilisers are a costly luxury.

One of the key results of the project is the toolkit for climate resilient urban planning.

Many cities all over the world are vulnerable to climate change and face multiple risks from severity of floods and storms related to, for instance, infrastructure and increasing populations.

The position offers challenging and varying tasks in a stimulating working environment and requires a fair amount of travelling. The person will be based in NDF's office in central Helsinki. NDF offers a two year contract with the possibility for extension or to be made permanent.

The shortlist for the Nordic Climate Facility’s sixth call for proposals is completed and fourteen applicants will be invited for contract negotiations

The sixth NCF call addresses the theme of “green growth for sustainable livelihoods”. Emphasis is on projects with possibilities to create climate-related business opportunities and sustainable green jobs.

NDF and the World Bank reviewed results of two participatory projects in Senegal and Benin relating to sustainable use of forestry resources in June 2016.

“Project progress has been slower than planned,” says Martina Jägerhorn, Country Program Manager. “This is typical for projects where the beneficiaries are expected to participate in project implementation.

The Newsletter describes how Nordic Development Fund supports climate-related projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The issue includes, for instance, an article about new Nordic backing for green finance in Africa.
