Nordic Development Fund (NDF) provides grant to develop a renewable energy strategy and investment plan for the Bay Islands in Honduras.

The Honduran Bay Islands forms the southern end of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, the largest barrier reef in the western hemisphere, the second largest barrier reef in the world.


Climate-smart agriculture is about sustainably increasing agricultural productivity and incomes by adapting and building resilience to climate change and reducing and/or removing greenhouse gas emissions.

Farmers are extremely vulnerable to fluctuations in climate.

26 students embark on 5-month geothermal training course.

NDF participated in the official launch of the 2014 Geothermal Diploma Course on 6 June in El Salvador. The event is organised by the National Energy Council, University of El Salvador, and the geothermal company LAGEO.


NDF participated on 26 May 2014 at the Geothermal Donor Collaboration Meeting in Reykjavik, Island. The meeting was hosted by the African Union Commission (AUC) and the Icelandic Development Agency (ICEIDA).

The meeting gathered representatives from appropriate ministries within the East Africa Rift Valley countries, the donor community and private power producer to discuss geothermal development in Africa.


The signing of the agreement took place in connection with the AfDB Annual Meeting in Kigali, Rwanda on 22 May 2014.

Mr. Aly Abou-Sabaa, Vice-President in the African Development Bank and Mr. Pasi Hellman, Managing Director of the Nordic Development Fund, signed an agreement on NDF support to the ClimDev Special Fund hosted by AfDB.


NDF and the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF, part of the Inter-American Development Bank Group) and other counterparts are financing the project that is the first of its kind in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The project aims to introduce and develop a commercially viable biogas market that will improve the incomes, livelihoods and quality of life of rural farmers and their families in Nicaragua.
