Flood Risk Management (PROGEP) [NDF C33]
Senegal
Flood Risk Management (under the Senegal Storm Water Management and Climate Change Adaptation Project (PROGEP))
Ref: NDF C33
EUR 3 million
Project period: 2012-2017
Partner agency: World Bank
Objectives
The World Bank plans to support a storm water management and climate change adaptation project (PROGEP) in Senegal. The objective of PROGEP is to improve storm water drainage and flood prevention in peri-urban Dakar for the benefit of local residents. The core interventions of the PROGEP are structural investments, institutional capacity building, and stakeholder involvement. The NDF activities address the climate aspects of the PROGEP and cut across all four PROGEP components:
1) Flood risk mainstreaming in key sectors
2) Drainage investments and management
3) Community engagement in urban flood-risk reduction and adaptation to climate change.
4) Project coordination, management, monitoring and evaluation Specifically, the activities financed by NDF will design and integrate flood risk reduction and adaptation measures into communal action plans. Ultimately, NDF’s involvement will contribute to PROGEP by strengthening Senegal’s abilities to prevent, prepare for and manage floods and to generate, disseminate and replicate related climate change knowledge. The World Bank will be NDF’s Partner Agency while the Municipal Development Agency will be the Implementing Agency responsible for the overall project coordination.
Financing
NDF will provide EUR 3 million.
