Objectives

The NDF grant will contribute to climate change mitigation by supporting sustainable use of forestry resources including measures to reduce deforestation by strengthening community-based sustainable wood fuel production and market management systems. Also, the grant aims at reducing aggregate wood demand and the depletion of forest stocks by promoting inter-fuel substitution. Furthermore there is support to local economic development through beekeeping and cashew nut plantation. The overall objective for the Increased Access to Modern Energy Project, of which the NDF intervention is part, is to improve reliability and access to modern energy services in Benin.

Financing

The NDF initiative is part of the Increased Access to Modern Energy Project with The World Bank/IDA as lead agency. NDF’s grant is part of the financing for the project component related to the modernisation of biomass energy services in Benin.
