The primary objective of the project was to build two clean and sustainable high yielding charcoal plants to reduce the impact charcoal production and deforestation has on climate change.

The project aims at contributing to improved sustainable livelihoods for small-scale coffee producers in Uganda through climate adaptation and mitigation measures in Bukomansimbi, Bushenyi, Ibanda Mbarara, Mitooma, Ntungamo and Sheema districts.

This project is a response to the increased vulnerability of rural population to drought and erosion in the dry north-east of Uganda, which affects their food and energy security, as well as incomes.
The project aims to create a climate change resilient coffee value chain in Uganda through the implementation of the farmer ownership model as well as investing in several mitigation and adaptation measures.

The project’s specific objectives are to improve household incomes, food security and climate resilience through development of agricultural infrastructure, specifically, 5 new small and medium scale irrigation schemes and related civil works, packaged with agribusiness development and integrated sustainable natural resources management.

The project will provide people working at and visiting the Nakawa market in Kampala, Uganda with purified water, sanitation facilities and wastewater treatment.

The project will introduce a low cost technology that enables bioethanol production at small scale sugar plants in Uganda.
The project aims at supporting the development of local renewable energy companies which will utilize renewable energy in a sustainable and financially beneficial manner.
The NDF intervention, constituting a part of the Energy for Rural Transformation Project, aims at increasing energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy technologies in rural Uganda.
