Objectives

The main output is to launch a call for proposal to support necessary water and climate change investments to move from plans to action by preparing investment projects that will attract follow-on financing. The main outcome is to get programmes and projects to the stage where they can be presented to potential financiers, both public and private, and thus, leverage additional investments.

The theme of the call is: Preparation of Water and Climate Change Investment Programmes and Projects. This encompasses both adaptation and mitigation projects. There is a close link between water and climate change as many problems related to climate change revolve around water (flooding, sea level rise) or lack of it (drought), causing devastating consequences across almost all sectors and affecting millions of people. There is a substantial financing gap between estimated and actual funding for required adaptation/mitigation interventions in Africa. By financing project preparation activities (pre-feasibility studies, feasibility studies and detailed designs) the call can leverage additional financing for water and climate change projects in Africa.

Financing

The total financing for the entire project is EUR 16 million of which AWF will provide EUR 10 million and NDF EUR 6 million. This includes the financing of a consultant to be hosted within AWF’s premises.
