Ref: NDF C39

EUR 3.0 million
Project period: 2012-2015
Partner agency: Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC)

Objectives

The main objective of the programme is to scale up energy efficiency measures and investments in SMEs through awareness raising, capacity building and financial support. GREENPYME II is based on the work done and experiences gained under the GREENPYME programme implemented in Central America. Through GREENPYME II the programme will be intensified in Honduras and Nicaragua and expanded to Bolivia and the Dominican Republic.

The GREENPYME approach is based on information dissemination and training targeted to the SMEs, energy auditors, local and regional financial institutions and authorities. The same methodology will be followed in GREENPYME II but the activities will focus more on opportunities and technologies already identified. Part of the funds is reserved for actual implementation of energy efficiency measures to make energy efficiency investments more attractive to the SMEs.

The programme has three main components:

1. Promotion and awareness raising about energy efficiency benefits and available technology among SMEs;
2. Capacity building and training targeted  to end users (SME decision makers), facilitators (auditors) and  financiers (local banks);
3. Direct and indirect support to SMEs to implement the energy efficiency measures.

Financing

Total cost of the project will be EUR 3.7 million, of which NDF will provide EUR 3.0 million and IIC EUR 0.7 million.
